If you are looking for smaller margins bigger odds and all-round value Asian Handicaps are just the ticket. Asian Handicap Markets are a great alternative to the bog standard ‘1X2’ fixed odds option.
Asian Handicaps may appear (and sound) complex but they are simple to grasp and can offer a more interesting punting opportunity on football matches. Learning Asian handicaps will add to your betting armoury and profitability.
Asian Handicap’s were created to make otherwise dull or one-sided (because of a strong favourite) betting affairs more interesting to the betting public. The handicap is designed to give a roughly equal chance to both teams. If the handicap is right it should create an even money betting opportunity though this is not always the case.
Asian Handicaps are increasingly popular and are worth understanding as part of your betting armoury. Take a look at our guide to Asian handicaps before placing your bets with VC Bet, Ladbrokes or Bet 365 - the Asian Handicap specialists.
Learn Asian Handicaps - in a nutshell
Single Handicaps
Handicap 0.5:
1.95 Chelsea (-0.5) v Liverpool (0.5) 1.85.
- The decimal number (1.95 and 1.85) is the decimal price on offer.
- The figure in brackets is the handicap.
- In this example Chelsea are an ‘imaginary’ half a goal behind at the start of the match. So, if you bet on Chelsea, they must win the match.
- If however, you bet on Liverpool, you win if The Reds win, or if the match is a draw.
In short, you win if your selected team wins. If it’s a draw your stake is returned.
Handicap 1:
- When selecting the -1 handicapped option your team must win by at least 2 clear goals (e.g. 2-0, 3-1, and 4-2).
- If your -1 selection only wins by one goal (1-0, 2-1, 3-2) your stake is refunded.
- When selecting the +1 option, you win if your team wins or draws the match.
- If however, your team loses by one goal the stake is refunded.
Handicap 1.5:
- When selecting the -1.5 handicapped option you win if your team wins the match by two or more goals.
- If however, you select the +1.5 team you win if the team wins or draws.
- You’re also a winner if your team loses by one goal – which is nice!
Handicap 2:
- When selecting the -2 handicapped option you win if your team wins by three or more goals.
- If however, your team wins by two goals the stake is refunded.
- If you selected the +2 team you win if the team wins or draws.
- You’re also a winner if your team loses by one goal.
- If your team loses by two goals your stake is refunded.
Handicap 2.5:
- When selecting the -2.5 handicapped option you win if your team wins by three or more goals.
- If you select the +2.5 option you win if your team wins or draws.
- You’re also a winner if your team loses the match by less than three goals.
Double handicap:
- With double handicap betting your wager is split in two. For example:
- In the example half your money is placed on Newcastle Utd minus half a goal and the other half on Newcastle minus 1 goal.
- The outcome of the bet is worked out in the same way as Single Handicaps detailed above.
Newcastle Utd V. Middlesbrough
(-½,-1) (+½, +1)
